Dairy Regional Assistance Program
(this programme has now closed)
The Dairy Regional Assistance Programme (Dairy RAP)
was part of the Commonwealth Governments $1.78 billion Dairy Industry Adjustment Package (DIAP) to dairy farmers and their communities following the decision of State Governments to deregulate their dairy industries.
Dairy RAP commenced on 1 July 2000 and had funds of $45 million ($15 million per year) over three years to fund Dairy RAP projects in eligible dairy regions throughout Australia.
The programme provided help to
dairy-dependent communities affected by
deregulation helping them to generate
employment solutions and deal with any
social dislocation that may be caused by
these changes. Dairy RAP helped these communities by supporting business investment, community infrastructure development and provide community access to training and counselling services.
Funding was available to both not-for-profit and private sector organisations.
The South East (NSW) Area Consultative Committee employed a part-time project officer to assist eligible private sector and not-for-profit organisations to develop appropriate DRAP proposals in dairy communities in our those parts of our region most affected by dairy deregulation (i.e. mainly the Eurobodalla and Bega Valley Shires).
